Cure Violence aims to reduce violence using public health approaches. Cure leverages community partnerships and violence interrupters along with public education campaigns. Violence interrupters are often credible messengers who typically are individuals who engaged in violent crime in the past. Violence interrupters work with high-risk individuals, typically individuals who possess guns, to mediate conflicts and stop retaliation. Cure Violence also leverages case workers who connect high risk individuals to services. Additionally, Cure interventions include partnerships with faith leaders, police, and prosecutors. Through these activities, Cure aims to provide immediate alternatives to youth violence, and to increase perceived risks associated with participating in violent behaviors. For Cure to be the most effective, anti-violence messaging should be developed with community input.
