What is Project Safe Neighborhoods?
Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a nationwide initiative that brings together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officials, prosecutors, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in a community and to develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
Our PSN training and technical assistance (TTA) team helps communities reduce violent crime through person-centered approaches and innovative solutions that are led by evidence-based practices.
The PSN program has significantly impacted our legitimacy in the eyes of the community and all the stakeholders in our district. The community is starting to see that PSN is about more than just prosecution.”
— Connie Wu
Assistant U.S. Attorney, US Department of Justice, Southern District of California
Project Safe Neighborhoods structure allows regular interaction between clergy, service agents, and community advocates. What it has done over the long term is create an ability to have a conversation about issues that affect the community.”
— Rob Lang
Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina
Project Safe Neighborhoods has really changed the way we view violent crime issues in our district. Violent crime isn’t exclusively a problem that can be addressed by law enforcement, and it can’t be addressed by community groups alone. We need partnerships between law enforcement and community working together.”
— Jessica Manca
Assistant U.S. Attorney – PSN Coordinator – Western District of Washington
