The Bureau of Justice Assistance Project Safe Neighborhoods Fundamentals of Social Network Analysis (SNA) training teaches law enforcement professionals about what SNA is and how to use it to understand and guide violence prevention efforts. SNA is a tool frequently used by law enforcement to visualize relationships into social structures that will be shared as intelligence in order to better inform crime prevention and intervention efforts.
Goal and Objectives:
• Introduce SNA and discuss how mapping human social networks can be beneficial in addressing violent crime.
• Address key SNA concepts and the basic data and computing requirements.
• Provide case study examples of how agencies have successfully applied SNA to reduce violent crime.
• Provide crime analysts with a technical foundation for applying SNA; offer continued professional development opportunities to help apply SNA to local crime-fighting strategies.
