Five-Part Grants Webinar Series–From Grants 101 through Grant Implementation

The SME will conduct a five-part webinar series presented in 60-minute segments. The five webinar topics are as follows:

  1. Grants 101 – A grant primer that will be a welcome introduction for agencies new to grant funding and a refresher for those with existing grant knowledge and experience
  2. Grant Strategy Development – A presentation/discussion of proactive and strategic steps to prepare for the grant season
  3. Matching Funding Needs to Current and Forthcoming Grants – Materials and guidance for learning about forthcoming public grant opportunities and researching private funding
  4. Grant-Writing Steps – Presentation on how to start a grant application, including strategies for identifying grant writers, research partners, and grant proposal writing tips
  5. Grant Award Implementation – Tips for effectively and efficiently implementing grant awards
Goal and Objectives:
  • Help local, state, and nonprofit agencies be more proactive and strategic in seeking public and private grant funding.
  • Provide information to help organizations gain an understanding of how public and private grant funding works.
  • Deliver information to help agencies create and successfully use a grant strategy to proactively and strategically seek public and private grant funding.
  • Give agencies suggestions and tips that can help them write more successful grant proposals.
  • Present information and guidance on how to effectively and efficiently implement grant awards.
Intended Audience:

Public safety agencies and organizations, including government, nonprofit, research, and educational organizations.

Length:

Five 60-minute webinars, with an additional 10 minutes per webinar for Q&A.

SMEs/Trainers:

Joan Brody, a public safety and grant advisor, is an independent contractor who works with municipal police departments, police foundations, and other public safety agencies across the nation to successfully obtain additional public and private grant funding and resources. She has worked in the criminal justice system for more than 30 years. Ms. Brody earned a master’s degree in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Before attending Harvard, she received bachelor’s and master’s of science degrees from Northeastern University in Boston, where she graduated summa cum laude, and as class valedictorian, from the College of Criminal Justice. Prior to consulting, she worked in city and state government and served as a key member of William J. Bratton’s senior policy staff and transition teams in the Boston and New York City Police Departments. Her current clients include individual US cities and all 30+ sites in the US Department of Justice National Public Safety Partnership, which brings together federal law enforcement, grant-making agencies, and subject matter experts in some of the country’s most violent cities to implement violence reduction strategies. Ms. Brody is also a presenter and member of the planning team at the Police Foundation Track of the International Association of Chiefs of Police annual conference.
